Competition #1: Fabulous Feet.

Apr 10, 2019

Competition season has begun. We had our first comp the last weekend in March in Medicine Hat. This was a new one for us and I actually really enjoyed it. The theatre was really nice and I mostly liked how it was run (not sure that there will ever be a perfect competition) but we enjoyed this one and would definitely go back. Our first dance was at 11:00am so we left bright and early Friday morning. We were driving and rooming with Tara and Elliot again. We had a full day of dance with 6 dances and didn't get back to the hotel till about 9:00pm.

No Bravery (M's Lyrical group) got a high gold and 2nd place.

Sir Duke (M's tap group) received High Silver, 2nd place, and got the Choreography award.

Mickey Motion (H's tap group) received Gold, 3rd place, and the Choreography award

Little Suede Shoes (M's jr tap group) received High Gold, 1st place, and the Choreography award.

Vivaldi (M's ballet group) received High Gold, 1st place, and the choreography award.

Bzzzarre (M's jr ballet group) received High Gold, and 2nd place

These two both had the option of sleeping in a bed but chose to sleep squished on the floor instead. Now that is friendship. After a day like that the girls went right to sleep when we got back to the hotel.

Saturday we had another full day at the theatre with 4 dances.

Me Too (H's jazz group) received Gold, and 1st place

Be Your Girl (M's jazz group) received Gold

McKenna received Gold on her ballet solo. She danced it beautifully and was really proud of how well she did. Her tutu is seriously the prettiest thing too.

These two go to the same school and did their first duet together a couple of years ago

All these girls from our studio were in the same session and all danced so beautifully.

Little Swans (H's ballet duet) received Gold, and 1st place. They are seriously the cutest and did so well.

We actually finished before supper today so we ordered pizza back at the hotel and then the girls got to swim and hang out with friends before bed. One of the best parts about competition.

Sunday we packed up, checked out, and headed back to the theatre for the last day.

Breathe, Stretch, Shake (M's hip hop group) received Gold

Allegro Con Fuoco (H's ballet group) received High Gold, and 1st place

There was also a dance-off at this competition. The top 5 highest scoring dances in each division danced again in a dance-off and then they are placed, with the first 3 placements receiving money. Both Hayley's jazz and ballet made it into the junior division, and McKenna's ballet group made it into the intermediate 1 division. McKenna's ballet is one of my favourite dances of hers this year. they were the lowest scored dance with only a few more dances to go and we were just holding our breath that they would make it in to the dance off. It was so exciting when we found out they did. We had a few hours to kill before the dance off so we went and relaxed at Tara's uncle and aunt's house. They were the nicest host's and it was so good to have a place to chill for a bit. Hayley was obsessed with their house and spent the whole time exploring.

In the dance off Hayley's jazz ended up getting 5th place and her ballet got 1st with a $200 prize, and McKenna's ballet got 2nd place with a $150 prize. It was fun to see them do so well.

It was a pretty exhausting weekend and by the time we left for home it was 9:30pm. We were pretty happy to get home and see the boys and get in our own beds.

It was the perfect first competition.
