Hiking Bertha Falls.

Jul 14, 2018

Last week the kids and I met up with Connie and we headed into Waterton for the day. One of my favourite things to do in Waterton is hike. There is just something so special about being in the midst of nature. So beautiful and breathtaking. So inspiring and peaceful. Because of the fire most of Waterton's hike's are closed this summer. It worked out though because Bertha is open and my kids have actually never done the hike to the Falls before so that's what our plan was for the day. To hike to Bertha Falls. I'd done it a few times growing up but haven't hiked it in a long time. But first we pulled into Emerald Bay and had a nice picnic lunch.

Love this moment captured of these two boys.

We were facing the sun so I told the kids to close their eyes and then when I count to three open them. Ty took it one more step. Always crackin me up that one.
After we ate we hiked to Bertha Falls. It was such a different experience for sure. Most of the hike has been burned badly. It looked like a completely different place and felt so weird and eerie walking through it. There was already quite a bit of green poking through and a bit of new growth already starting. It will now be a different kind of beautiful as we watch it regrow. Closer to the Falls it goes back to being lush and green. It was unreal to see the difference.

Before you couldn't see the Prince of Wales hotel so clearly because of all the trees

This was the lookout point about halfway to the Falls

Connie captured this one.
3 out of the 4 kids complained most of the hike. Can you guess which one wasn't complaining? But once we got to the Falls, they loved it. We sat by the creek a little ways down and ate a snack and the kids played in the water. It was so nice and refreshing.

I took this shot on our way back down. Crazy how different it is from the pics right by the Falls
After the hike we went back into town for some gelato and beaver tails.

Then we walked through some of the shops on main street. There was so much cotton blowing around it almost looked like snow. We walked down by the docks and the kids put their feet in the water. They've redone that area and it looks really nice. Put new concrete stairs in and more trees and plants. It looks really good.

Then we went back to the farm for supper and a quick visit before heading home. It really was a fantastic day. We love summer.
