Christmas Letter 2017.

Dec 31, 2017

Wow. 2017 you have been so good to us. The most exciting thing this year was definitely finishing and moving into our house. Our hearts and souls went into this house and it took a lot out of us. It felt so good to see it all come together, and then to be able to enjoy our fruits has been the best feeling ever. We love our house. There is still a few more things to finish up but it feels so good to be settled.

Nate started Middle School this year and just turned 13! We have an official teenager. He is a really good kid and I'm not worried about the whole teenager thing in the least with him. He babysits a ton for us and started baking a bit the last couple of months, mostly cookies, but he's also made pancakes. His number one love is still basketball and he is on the grade 7 team this year. We are right in the middle of the season and I love watching him play. He also loves to write and draw, and was so excited to get an xbox one for his birthday. We surprised him pretty good. Now if I could just get him to wear a winter coat.

Ty is in grade 5 and will turn 11 next month. He is my social butterfly. We surprised him with my old Iphone for his birthday and he is already "all over social media" (his words). He loves to be involved in everything and is pretty good at most things he try's. He has a kind heart and try's to include everyone. He had a really good football and baseball season this year. He got to play quarterback quite a bit and is fast and aggressive on the field. His pitching in baseball improved a ton this year and he even hit a few triple's. No over the fence one's yet, but he's working on it. His summer team ended up getting second in the big Prairie's tournament. He is always on the go and always has someone to play with. Basketball will start for him right after the holidays.

McKenna is in grade 4 and will turn 10 in a couple of months. She is fully immersed in dance and added a solo to her competition piece's this year. She is really starting to put more effort into dance and is practicing and stretching all on her own. Her schedule will allow her to be involved in basketball at the school this year so she decided to give it a try. She has also picked up a love for baking and cooking and is excited about the cookbook she received for Christmas. She is so helpful with Hayley and Lily and is happy and confidant with who she is. She never seems to jump on the band wagon of trends or care about popular things (JoJo bows, LOL dolls), she just likes doing her own thing. I hope that sticks forever.

Hayley is 6 and started grade 1 this year. She is doing awesome and has adjusted to the full days really well. She is pretty social as well and is always wanting a friend to play with. She started competition this year and is doing really well in dance. She is one of the youngest in her class but probably works the hardest. She comes home and practices all.the.time. She is always dancing and will perform her routines for anyone. We even added a duet and she is doing really well. If she struggles with something she comes home determined to get it and works hard at it. Not only in dance but in other area's too. I hope that sticks as well. She is a strong reader and loves to read and also loves to make cards for everyone and anyone. She is in the choir at school and enjoys singing. She is getting so big but is still our little baby and loves cuddles.

Ryan is happy to have his evenings back now that the house is done. He is always working hard and is even coaching Nate's basketball team this year. He kinda had his arm twisted into it but he is good at it and I think he is actually enjoying it. The girls are usually dancing over supper times so he has stepped up and is cooking more this year and I am loving that. Supper planning and prep is not my favourite. He is working hard on a puzzle right now, loves to read, and play sports on the xbox with the boys. He really is the best guy and we all love and appreciate all he does for our family.

I am watching Lily full time this year. It has been really good and we all adore her. Its nice to be able to stay home and still be involved in the kids and school. It also gives me some time to really think about what I want to do with my life. Now that the kids are all in school full time it almost feels like I've just graduated and now I have to decide "what's next?" I have some ideas and dreams but executing them is trickier. We will see what happens in the next couple of years I guess. I've really taken an interest and love for making video's and would really like to work at doing more of that and getting better at it. I'm always interested in getting the most out of life and doing everything I can to take care of myself and be healthy. I am absolutely loving my fireplace and garage this winter.

I sincerely hope that your 2017 was one for the books (and that you actually documented it somehow) and that 2018 will be your best year yet! We appreciate all the love and support we get from all of you. Community makes all the difference in the World and we are glad you are a part of ours.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Love the Olsen's

Ryan, Kelli, Nate, Ty, McKenna, and Hayley
