In my Pantry.

Here are some things that we have started buying because its a healthier option. Sometimes it feels overwhelming when you think of all the changes you want to make and the new things you will have to buy, but just start out slow and start replacing things with healthier options. Soon they will become part of your regular shopping list.

Milk was one of the first things to go for us. They have so many healthier non-dairy options. We love this almond milk. We buy this at Costco and it comes in a pack of 3. If that's too big of a step for you they do have sweetened versions which might taste better but will have more sugar, but it is still a step up from regular milk. When we switched our kids adjusted really well and didn't complain once.

Coconut oil is good for so many things. When your cooking on really high heat coconut oil is the best. Olive oil will start to oxidize which create's free radicals. Olive oil is good for making dressings and stuff like that but coconut oil is best for cooking, and it gives it a yummy taste. It helps aid with digestion, helps strengthen your immune system, and boost metabolism. Its also great for your skin. I use it to wash my make up off and it leaves my skin soft and smooth, and it helps with wrinkles too. We buy our's from Costco. It is pricey, but it lasts a long time and is definitely worth the price.

We love Quinoa. It is loaded with protein, fiber and minerals, but doesn't contain any gluten. You can eat it for breakfast as an oatmeal, its great cold with a mix of veggies for a salad, and is yummy hot too for suppers. Sometimes I even make mine in the crockpot. Again, we buy our's at Costco.

This is one of our newer purchases. Flaxseed is high in fiber and can reduce your risk for heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. This one is like a ground powder and its so easy to add into smoothies, cereals, salads...or anything really. It gives things a real nutty taste too. Again, this bag is from Costco.

We started getting rid of our sugar cereals and are opting for granola. Making it yourself is probably best but I'm not quite there yet. They have tons of healthier options out there. We love the brand Nature's path. Our favourite is the pumpkin seed one, which of course we get at Costco. They are organic and full of really great wholesome ingredients. We like to eat our's with added flaxseed and lots of fruit. Sometimes I'll make a greek yogurt bowl with fruit and add some granola in it for a snack.

I crave salty things more then I do sweet. Instead of buying bbq lays (which use to be a regular purchase for us) we buy taco chips. We love these organic one's from Costco. I love to make guacamole, and it helps with my salt craving but is a healthier option. The kids love to snack on them too.

Oh, and aren't these three little girls the sweetest things you've ever seen.

  1. Its nice that Costco has all those healthy options now, especially cause you can buy it in bulk. You guys are awesome. I have cut sugar cereals, but still let them have them Fridays and Saturdays until the one package of sugar cereal we by each month runs out. Baby steps, but I do want to be more healthy as a family, and it is the little choices we make each day that make all the difference. Thanks for sharing your ideas/finds. Miss you my friend :)
