Eating Healthy.

Feb 18, 2016

So I've been starting to make some changes to my diet so that I can be my best, healthy self. Here are a few things I've been trying to do:

1. Eat more fruit and veggies obviously. I've also been making lots of green smoothies. They are so fun and yummy, and so easy because you can put just about anything into them. I try to have at least 1 a day.

2. Drink more water. This one is actually quite hard for me but staying hydrated is really important for your body so I will keep at it.

3. Eat less meat. Meat is actually really hard for your body to digest and is not meant to be eaten at every meal. And depending how the animals were raised and treated it could be even more unhealthy for your body. Unhealthy animals create unhealthy food.

4. Limiting dairy products. Dairy is high in saturated fats, its inflammatory and the growth hormones in dairy can stimulate malignant cell growth and proliferation. If you only cut one of these things out of your diet I would suggest dairy to be the first to go. Whenever someone has food sensitivities cutting dairy out almost always helps.

5. Limiting processed sugar. It is just toxic to your body. White sugar spikes your blood sugar, taxes your immune system, robs you of minerals, is highly addictive, and floods your body with excess insulin and IGF1, which stimulate the growth of cancer cells. You can still indulge in sweets, just choose healthier options.

6. Eat Organic. I try and do this as much as I possibly can. Superstore has an amazing health food isle full of organic food choices.

7. Limit Gluten. Gluten is like glue and very hard to digest. Like dairy, if you are having food sensitivities cutting out gluten can dramatically help.

I know that seems like a lot to start cutting out of your diet, but I can promise you will feel like a new person. The good thing is every better choice helps and make's a difference. Even if you can't give up meat completely (I can't) eating it for 3 meals a week instead of 7 will work wonders on your body. Do the best you can. If you buy a chocolate bar or have a can of pop everyday, start trying to go without it every other day, and then see if you can go longer after that etc. It actually feels really awesome to have enough control to let some of these things go. I have a long ways to go, but I am already feeling happier and more energetic. I am hardly ever sick, and I use to get headache's all the time and I haven't had one in months. I am feeling great. It really is true what they say, you are what you eat.

  1. My best friend is studying to be a master herbalist and when I went to Costa Rica to visit her she introduced me to the Blood Type Diet. From the book "Eat Right for Your type". It's super fascinating and have been living the changes I have made to my food choices.
