Monday Night Lights.

Sep 30, 2015

The boys got to play at the U of L stadium on Monday. Ty's game was at 6:00pm and Nate's was right after at 7:00pm. They loved playing under the lights. It was a beautiful fall evening as well which was perfect. A beautiful Fall evening still means wearing gloves, a toque, and all cuddled up in a blanket. I just needed a hot chocolate and then it really would have been perfect. The boys are both improving a ton and I really love watching them.

I'm not going to lie. At the start of the season I wasn't sure how I felt about this football thing. Nate is 10 and in grade 5 so we signed him up to play on the Atoms team. We were excited because that meant the boys could play together and we would only have one schedule to work with. When we showed up for the first day they had Nate signed up for PeeWee's which is middle school kids. I was annoyed that they didn't ask us if that would be okay. I told them it was Nate's first year but I guess they had so many Atoms they needed to move him up. I wasn't too happy but thought maybe it would be good for Nate.

There were a ton of Atom players so they decided to split the team into two teams. Another parent volunteered to coach the other team, but the problem is the main coach just took all the kids from last year and put them on his team. That left all the kids who were playing for the first time all on the other team. (the team Ty is on). So we have a team with all new and inexperienced players. So unfair. Especially to the boys who need the experienced players to learn from and to make it more fair when playing the other teams. I was really ticked and unimpressed with the main coach. So we ended up with one really good coyote's team, and one that has never played before so we have lost all of our games. It honestly really annoys me. Luckily Ty has some really good coaches who actually care about the boys and are working hard to teach them all how to play the game. Ryan has been able to help coach too which is awesome. I think its given Ty a chance to play more too which is good. The team still hasn't won a game but they are improving a ton. Its hard to keep their morale up but I keep reminding Ty its his first year and its more important to learn and improve then to win.

Nate's actually had a really bad experience playing on the Pee wee team. Because its his first year its been rough on him trying to keep up with the older boys. He's also really shy and timid and football is way out of his comfort zone. He has no friends on the team and just isn't very aggressive. He's been trying and giving it his all but he just hasn't been loving it. He kind of had a break down yesterday and just didn't want to go to practice. We talked everything through and decided we didn't care what the league said. We talked to the Atom coach and the Pee wee coach and decided the best thing for him was to be playing on the Atoms team (where he should have been in the first place) with his brother and the other kids who are less experienced. I think it will be so much better for him. His self esteem and confidence have taken a beating and hopefully he can regain some of that. I don't think football will be his sport but I'm happy he'll get to finish the season off on a positive note. Besides now we are on one football schedule! Happy Day! Now I think I can get on board this whole football thing.

We also went to Henderson Lake the other night and walked, rode, bladed around the Lake and then played at the park. Our family played a mean game of tag together. Every single one of us. It was so much fun, and we stayed out till it got dark. It was one of the best nights. I sure love this family of mine.
