Zion's National Park.

Nov 19, 2019

Mine and Ryan's anniversary is coming up so we decided to head down south to Zion's National Park near St. George, Utah. Visiting this park is on my bucketlist, especially hiking Angel's Landing. We left Friday morning and drove all day to South Jordan where Ryan's brother lives. Of course we had to eat supper at Zupa's. Its a soup, salad, and sandwich place and is one of my absolute favourite's.

I love their creme brulee. We had a nice visit with Dave, Jacki, and Ben in their hot tub that evening.

Saturday morning we headed to Zion's. It was about another 4 hour drive. I loved watching the temperature rise from 8 to 23 degrees as we drove. Just a couple of Canadian kids chasing the sunshine. We made a lunch pit stop and ate at Cafe Rio, another one of our favourite's.

My sister in law also told us about this amazing cookie place called Crumbl and there just happened to be one right across from Cafe Rio so we had to give it a try.

They were huge and super delicious, and had so many fun flavours which they switch out weekly. We got the Churro and Nutella. They were both so good that we ended up buying more and taking them home to share with the kids.

We made it to the park mid afternoon. We drove around exploring. It is so beautiful and breath taking. Beautiful views everywhere you turn. I was in Heaven. We pulled over at one point and did the Canyon Overlook trail. Seriously, I am in love with this place.

We drove through this long tunnel
That little hole is a window in the tunnel
Then we headed into St. George for the evening. That was my only regret this trip. Not booking a hotel closer to Zion. St. George was like 40 min away so it was annoying to make that drive when we were only there for such a short time. The hotel was nice though and we enjoyed our stay there.

The next morning we headed straight for Angel's Landing. It is a hike I had heard about and added it to my bucketlist. I was so excited to hike it.

Please notice how it has a person falling on the sign and right on there is says since 2004, 9 people have died falling. Definitely not a hike for the faint of heart, or anyone with a fear of heights. The hike was so amazing and beautiful. A lot of switchbacks.

These little switchbacks are called Walter's Wiggle

I was so excited about all the Fall colours
Once you get to the first top you can decide if you want to continue the rest of the way which is a narrow path where you hold on to a chain as your guide. I honestly was just expecting a small portion with the chain but it's actually a pretty big part of the hike. I've never really had a fear of heights but I was definitely nervous when I saw what we would actually be doing, but I tried not to think about it and knew I had to go for it.

The pic above is a view at the first landing. You can see that to continue right to the little top you have a small trail where you are basically scaling a mountain with only a chain link as your guide. Terrifying but really thrilling at the same time.

Grab on. Let's go

I was just concentrating on putting one foot in front of the other and tried not to look on either side of me. There were some points where we had to find a place to move over and wait for oncoming traffic because there is only room for one line of people. And then...

We made it to the top. It was amazing.

Okay this one wasn't exactly right at the top but pretty darn close

I thought it would be scarier going down but I actually thought it was easier and felt a bit more comfortable by that point. It was such an amazing experience and I definitely want to go back and do it again.

We were pretty tired after this so we decided to just go explore the little town a bit right outside Zion and then we headed back to St. George.

Found Christmas in the desert.

Amazing lavender drink. Everything taste's better in the mountains
We made it back to St. George in time for the sunset and watched it from Pioneer Park where there are a bunch of massive rocks to climb all over.

It was such a short trip so we didn't get to experience enough and will definitely be back when we can stay a little longer. Because it was such a short trip we spent a lot of the time driving. We were definitely happy to get home, but had such an amazing time. Even if it was a short get away it breathed life back into my soul. Okay, I'm ready for you winter. (but not really).
