Oahu, Hawaii Highlights.

Feb 2, 2018

As most of you know Ryan and I just got home from a way too short vacation to Oahu. We spent last year building a house and after all the busyness and stress of that was over we figured we deserved a little get away. My first choice was Maui but Ryan went to University for a semester in Oahu and he wanted to go back and show me around. Luckily we were able to use our points from the house build for our flights so we only had to pay the taxes. We found a cheap studio apartment at the Turtle Bay resort on the North Shore, which I'll talk more about later, and off we went! (Ha, wish it was that easy).

But of course, first things first...what do we do with our kids. Luckily we have amazing family and so my in-laws took them for the first 3 days over the weekend, and my sister came and stayed at our house for the few days after that so the kids could go to school. My Father in-law took Nate to his basketball tournament in Pincher Creek, and Connie picked the kids up, and Shannon brought them home. See, we have the best family. My brother brought my sister to our house so she could be here when the kids got home and then she held down the fort here, with supper in the crock pot ready to eat when we got home from 15 hours of travel. Again, best family ever. I'm glad we can go away and know our kids will be well taken care of. I wish we could have stayed longer, but I hate leaving the kids for too long, especially when they have busy basketball and dance schedules, so we were only there for 5 full days.

Thursday morning we got up and got the kids off to school and then we headed to Okotoks. My Dad was kind enough to drop us off and pick us up from the airport so we wouldn't have to pay for parking or come back to a freezing cold vehicle. See, the best. Our flight left Calgary at 1:30pm, we had a 3 hour layover in Vancouver, and then a 5 hour flight to Honolulu. We landed at 11:00pm Hawaiian time which put us at 2:00am our time. By the time we got our luggage, car rental, and made it to our hotel in Waikiki it was 3:30am our time. We were exhausted and hopped right into bed. Sadly I had the worst sleep of my life. First of all our hotel was kind of sketchy and it was noisy, noisy, noisy. Noisy outside, noisy inside, and I swear I kept hearing whispering. Someone saying "tell him." It was super weird and I hardly slept a wink. Also, the hotel phone went off at like 4 in the morning because apparently Ryan had left the car running. It has the push button start and shut off and we parked right in front of this noisy machine and didn't realize it hadn't turned off, so ya, the car was running for like 3 hours. Thank goodness someone caught it and let us know. But it was a pretty bad night.

But we were in Hawaii so I couldn't complain too much. We were anxious to get exploring and make our way to the North Shore where the majority of our vacation was. I will continue to blog the details of our trip so I hope you'll continue to follow along. Maybe get some idea's for your next vacation. I'll leave you with a highlights video that I put together, and will continue to blog Hawaii over the next couple of weeks. Enjoy.
