Hair.

Jun 17, 2014

I've been having so much fun playing around with McKenna's hair and trying out cute hairstyles. I get a lot of ideas or inspiration from this blogger twist me pretty. She has really cute ideas and great tutorials. Because McKenna doesn't have a lot of hair sometimes I'll change the hairstyle up a bit to fit her type of hair. I'm so grateful that she'll sit nice and still for me and let me do whatever I want to it. (Hayley is another story). I am really not a nit picky kind of person but with McKenna's hair I really want it to be perfect. Sometimes I'll do something with it and as the day goes on I'll stare at it and decide ways I could make it better or a different idea to try for next time. Its really quite funny and out of character for me. Here are some of the hairstyles I've tried out in the last couple of months:

This one I would have played around with more but she did not like it at all.

This one I would put the first knot down just a little.

This one I had just planned to do the braid but didn't like how it looked so I added the side bun. Turned out really cute.

This isn't a good picture but I love to put some curl into her hair. I just use my infiniti Conair curling wand that you can get at any grocery store.

Since we're on the subject of hair...I have to tell you the story of the hair piece. So far with McKenna's year end show's I've been able to avoid getting her a hair piece, but this year her ballet routine is first which calls for a high bun, and her tap is 10 numbers later and calls for a high curly pony tail. Anyone who has ever helped out at a recital or year end show of this magnitude will tell you how chaotic it can be. The easiest thing is just to get your child a hair piece for easy hair changes. I knew we would have to get one for her this year. I went to Sally's beauty supplies thinking it would be the perfect place. There was a smaller one but it wasn't curly enough, then there was a longer one but it was way too big and long for McKenna. The lady told me I could flip the hair piece to make it shorter. I thought we could make it work and bought it for $32. yikes, I know. Here is what it looked like:

see. Way too big and over powering. We flipped it which shortened it a bit but made it poofy and not cute at all. I have a friend who is a hairdresser so I took it over to her and she trimmed it and thinned it out. It was the perfect size and legnth but was completely straight. My other friend told me I could curl it with water and foam curlers so we tried that, but I could not get curl back into it. I finally went to classique's and found the perfect one and it was only $21. So we bought it. Here it is:

Much better. Well of course I couldn't take the other hair piece back. I try not to think about how I wasted $32. I should have went to the dance store first and not have been so hasty in purchasing the one at Sally's. Oh well. Ya live and learn.

  1. They all look so cute. I have done the same thing with buying something and then found better later. Oh Well!! I am sad now that the girls are old enough and do their own hair. I love the side dutch braid one.
